In accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1591 (2005), restrictive measures have been imposed by the European Union against those individuals who impede the peace process, constitute a threat to stability in Darfur and the region, commit violations of international humanitarian or human rights law or other atrocities, violate the arms embargo and/or are responsible for offensive military overflights in and over the Darfur region, as designated by the Sanctions Committee.

There is an arms embargo for export, technical assistance, brokering and financial assistance. Some exceptions apply.


Financial sanctions: Listed persons & entities, restricted services

There are currently 3 persons on the list of people whose funds and economic resources are frozen. These are individuals who impede the peace process, constitute a threat to stability in Darfur and the region, commit violations of international humanitarian or human rights law or other atrocities, violate the arms embargo and/or are responsible for offensive military overflights in and over the Darfur region.


Other sanctions

There is an obligation for the EU Member States to prevent the entry into, or transit through, their territories of the 3 individuals listed.
